The Forest in the Village

Dear Family & Friends

Our village is small, layback and safe..and I like this!

The girls have been telling me about the forest they've discovered. They love going there on their bikes because at the moment it's blosoming with Elderflowers! You can just imagine the fragrance!! There's villagers going there to pick the flowers to make some Elderflower cordial drink too... but my girls weren't quick enough to join the harvest. For the moment, all flowers left are now too high for them to reach.

As you know me, I don't go very far anywhere...the farthest I go each day is from our house into our garden!! No, I haven't even went to the village fishing lake that they love going...and now I'm missing this forest too! My excuse is: mosquitoes lurking around the bush...I do have phobia of them!

Grateful for the photos the girls take home for me to see. From this forest, it leads you to an open field... This year, it's planted with sunflower!

Must be nice to go back there later on to see the sunflower field in bloom....ehem... another adventure trip for THEM! ... I think I will continue on enjoying the two sunflowers that planted itself in our own garden!!

If you're curious where the lake water comes from...well, on their way back, they passed a river/creek...From the balkans (mountains), water rans through river (small and big), feeding some lakes on it's way too:)

It's truly nice to be close to undeveloped natural environment... I think there's not many places left where you can feel safe for children to roam and explore freely on their own. For this, I'm very grateful indeed. :)

Yours

  1. Hi Annie! The photos of the forest brought back memories of my National Service days! We do not have much forest areas here in SIngapore and the remaining ones are mostly used for military training troops!

    1. Ah...perhaps it's because the presence of the mosquitoes in the forest bush are part of toughening up military technique...eh? :D

  2. Hi Annie! Oh, the forest looks so beautiful but like you - I hate mosquitoes! So many around here carry the west nile virus and it can really make you sick. I would love to see some of those flowers as I've never heard of them before. Are they the same as Edelweiss? I know the song from The Sound of Music! ;0
Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;0

    1. Hi Shelia...Elderberry grows on trees while Edelweiss are alphine flowers, growing on ground and rocky areas. But both are lovely sweet smelling flowers. I think they now sell elderflower juice cordial/drinks in bottle...must try them:) BTW, we love Sound of Music too...watched them so many times, still good as ever, in fact we even went to Austria to join the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg! It's fun!

    1. One minds more than the other because she also develops mosquito bite allergy like me...but she got no choice because the other sister drags her everywhere :O I'm sure they will be back there for the sunflower blooms in a month or so again:)
