A reflection on the simple life in Bulgaria

Dear Family & Friends

The first few years when we came to live in Bulgaria, we saw just a few shepherds accompanying their two or three sheep in the pasture...although the old folks in our village recounts that they used to have herds of 30 -40 sheep in the time past. It seems like that time is coming back. We are noticing more herds of sheep and cows in pasture these days. I do get excited watching sheep in flocks:) and I'm hoping that this also mean a better economy for the local people here.

the sheep and the little lamb

In the village, population comprises mainly of elderly folks...it's a bit sad that the young generations have all gone away to richer western european countries to work as harvester for fruit farms ...mostly doing the backbreaking task which nobody wants to do...to me that is sad...because Bulgaria got lots of potential for a successful economy...the land is good and the climate is PERFECT!

After a hard day's work...it's time to sit and relax before nightfall

I do appreciate the old folks in our village...their life is simple, they work very hard, they patiently wait for the younger generation to come back to their own land...if only the economy turns around... After a long day work...you can see them sitting on benches outside their home by the street for a chat or simply watch odd cars passing by before nightfall drives them back into their home for an early night rest.

Odd fruits here and there fills up a wheel borrow:)

We enjoy the peacefulness of a village life...when most of major western European cities are threaten with unspeakable chaos and greed...we appreciate this little part of the world where our family feels safe, with no pressure of conforming to a certain fashion dictated lifestyle. A simple and stress free life enable people the ability to access the preciousness of others.

Here's a video link I would like to share with you...it's a beautiful invitation and a glimpse of the city we call home...not far from our village home. http://www.visitplovdiv.com/en/node/430

Everyday is something to be thankful of...because our simple Life is good here:) Hope it is the same for you too.

Yours

  3. Hi Annie! That was a very sweet message. Makes me want to come visit! We are waiting for our children to return for Christmas. Our situation is different, but kind of the same. It is very expensive to live where our home is, so our children have also left, but mostly because they cannot afford to live here. I wish you and yours the most wonderful holiday season :-)

    1. Come over Kev! Cost of Living is so much cheaper and pounds sterling is so strong for the moment. Just have to sort out how to earn the monthly income, of which you don't need much, and this is a stress free little world! Wishing you and your family all the best for the new year 2016:)

    1. It's not the easiest place to come (flight connections/visa requirements if applicable etc...)...and still 'backward' in so many ways....but it's cheap and surrounded by natural beauty outside of the city centres. I'm sure you'll find it fascinating:)
