Blanc Mange

Dear Family & Friends

Here's a dessert that is so easy to make...a Blanc Mange! The ingredients are so simple too. I think any child could do this and it is fun.

The recipe for Blanc Mange:

3 cups milk
1/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
2 cinnamon sticks
1 lemon peel, cut into strips
1 pinch ground cinnamon
3 ounces shaved semisweet chocolate, for garnish

Place 1 cup of the milk into a saucepan. Add lemon peel and cinnamon sticks. Bring milk to a simmer over medium heat. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, sugar and the remaining milk. When the milk in the pan begins to simmer, pour the cornstarch mixture into the saucepan in a thin steady stream. Whisk vigorously and increase heat just a bit to bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Allow the mixture to boil for about 20 seconds while continuing to whisk, then remove from heat. Remove the lemon peel and cinnamon sticks. Stir in the pinch of cinnamon and vanilla.
Pour into a dish or mold, and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, or overnight.

I like to have some fruits with our Blanc Mange. For today, I've placed some white mulberry in the rameskin dish, top it up with blanc mange, then, pretty it with some more mulberry fruits on top.

It's an easy peasy dessert to do... my little girl would say: "Ah Mummy....you and your Blanc Mange"...it's not a complain...more of a compliment...afterall, no Blanc Mange stands a chance without being eaten in our household;P

You could try flavouring it differently, the way you prefer it....the key is to enjoy:)

Yours

  1. Annie, I have all the ingredients at home. Am I lucky or what? Thanks for the recipe.

  2. My mother used to make something similar when we were sick. It was so much more fun to be sick on those days than to be healthy.
