Black & White Fruit & Veg

Dear Family & Friend

Have you even seen and tried this fruit? This is Mulberry... a white and black varieties. They look and taste good too:)

Our village is named Mulberry village, when translated to English, that is! True to it's name, we have streets lined with Mulberry trees. So, my two girls picked some for eating and freezing. We used to have a big Mulberry tree in our own garden, but we had to cut it down as it was diseased and it also created a lot of shade in the garden, having grown to an enormous size and was uncared for before we got here. The tree normally drop its fruit to the ground if you don't pick them...so there's a lot of mess in our village pavements!

Well, this is free food here...and not many people care about it...but we love them!

I've also harvested my first 4 french round black beans...it's very deep purple in colour but when it's cooked, it turns green:) Amazing right?! There's more to come...but today, there's only one for each one of us:) Fresh beans are our favourites...we don't seem to get fed up with it, but it's only for a season.

On a sad note, today I noticed part of our Plum tree branch was broken... such a pity...because it is full of decent size fruits but not ripe yet....so, I gathered the green fruits and perhaps I could try to preserve them... don't really know how...but I will do some recipe search...Any ideas?

Yours,

  3. Hi Annie, very interesting harvest. Have not seen French black beans but amazing after cooked it turn green :)

Oh.. those plums fruit... don't waste it. Since it's not ripe, you can make chutney, spiced plum pickle. But best idea is to make preserved sour plums. You can refer to the following link how to use up the unripe plums.
