Autumn Veggies in the garden

Although the autumn cool air is officially here, yet there's still a lot of vegetables going in the garden. These mustard leaves salad are loving the cooler days...so we often have them fresh from the garden. It's spicy and so crispy:)

Look at the bird's eye chili... I transfered one plant into a pot and it's happy there too. See the green hot
peppers waiting to turn red?

Sowed some pak choi at the start of September and they're now ready for harvest too....I only harvest the big leaves and let them carry on growing for more.

In early spring, I planted ruby chard. By summer, it bolted and produced seeds. Lazy me never cleared them up till recently...and look at all the seedlings...it self sowed itself on the ground. Now I've got lots to transplant in neat rows ...We'll be able to enjoy more chards before winter settles in and I think they will overwinter and will continue having harvest till spring. They are what I call efficient veggie plants:)

Unfortunately, other plants like the tomatoes and corgette are starting to say goodbye...but I let them stay on a bit longer...because there's still some last fruits to harvest. Soon I have to accept that I just have to see them again next year.

Ah...the garden life...there's a time and a season for everything.

  1. Hi Annie,

It is always sad to say goodbye to the tomatoes and zucchini towards the end of autumn. We had the same feeling too :D

  2. It is such a bittersweet time of year! I just pulled up the last of the pepper plants today, and the garden is looking really bare at the moment.

    1. Anne, a pot of mint is very useful. Nice for mint tea during cold season, mint sauce for roast lamb is super! etc...the more you harvest your mint leaves, the more it will give you! just don't forget to water it ;P
